Hopefully it is very different! To some degree it depends on whether you are going part-time or full-time, whether you are in a rigorous program or not, etc. The more full-time your program the more that you will have a group of student colleagues that you will hang out with. The more that it is a part-time program the more likely that fellow students will have serious lives outside the graduate program and will spend less time with fellow students. The more academic the orientation of your program the more that you will spend time in classes, studying and preparing, and doing your research (and the research of your faculty mentor).

In general, though, you will be doing far more work in graduate school and spending far less time partying. My experience in graduate school is that you spend more time with fewer people–the fellow students in your program. You do social events, but they often center around school-a Friday afternoon pitcher with students and faculty, a weekday pot-luck dinner and study group, going to a movie, perhaps going out to a bar sometimes on a weekend.

Most people I know in graduate school now either have partners or are looking for a more steady dating situation. So very few of the current grad students aim for weekend hook-ups. Nobody still goes to fraternity or sorority events, even if they were once involved in this.

So, potentially lots of changes depending on what your social life was like as an undergraduate. But, its a step up in the life process, for most students a much more serious venture than undergraduate school. Remember, many fewer students go to graduate school compared to students in undergraduate school.

BTW, I loved the graduate school experience. Much different relationship with learning, with the professors. Enjoy it!!
