I'm getting ready to go back to grad school and I have a lot of options as to what I can pursue… I want to use the degree to teach in the local college or community college or for online schools. Which major will afford me the most job opportunities…… art history? archaeology? humanities? classical history? classics? or english?

please let me know what you think and why you think that…. along with your first and second choice…..thanks

Regarding the local college, read the newspaper help wanted ads and get a sense for what subjects are most in demand in your geographic area.

I have a feeling, though, that all the subjects you list are not in high demand. I suspect what is in demand is math, science , computers, and business. But see for yourself.

If I had topick one of your subjects, I pick English. Every US college student takes English – few take archaeology or classics.

Good luck.

I am going to an online college and I got financial aid for it, I have took four classes online and I really don't want to graduate from an online school. There is a technical college that I would like to go to summer of 2007. Would I still have to pay the online school stafford loans back if I didn't take all the classes and transfer to the technical school and get financial aid there?

Not only you'll pay them back but its defaulting a loan. you'll be better off graduating with them then going to that tech school cuz most of those dont even transfer to one another. do some research about it, call the school you're thinking about going and ask them about your plan and see what they'd say. good luck!

Online education gives you an opportunity to earn your desired qualification while you still need to commit to other essential commitments. While the opportunity and pathway are provided, you will have to prepare for it. If you are taking a graduate course, you will have already experienced what the demands are. So, to continue to pursue your graduate degree online should not a major issue. However, if you are taking a degree for the first time, the academic demands are far greater than in high school. You will have to prepare for it. This should not be a major issue if you decided to work hard.

One possible reason that you are taking the online degree is because you need to work. As such, in order to cope with both work and study, and to complete the course in a satisfactory manner, you will need to develop personal efficiency. Below are some suggested ways.

Firstly, you will need to design a schedule. By having a schedule, you will know precisely what to do in a particular day and time. You will not be wasting valuable time thinking of what to do. For example, you may want to designate a particular block of time per day for your study and do nothing else.

Secondly, if the online degree involves delivering lectures over the web, it is best that you read through the notes before you listen to the lectures. By going through the notes, you either understand them all, some or none. If you understand them all, this will reinforce your understanding in the subject when you hear the lecture. However, if you do not understand the notes, you will naturally make every effort to listen to what the instructor is trying to say. You have prepared for it and you want to clear your doubts.

Thirdly, find a conducive place to study. Well this may not be as easy as you think. It depends on your family setting and background. Some people can study with the hi-fi blasting and the TV screaming, while the ticking of the clock’s second hand will irritate some. As far as possible, you should use a table and a chair for your study and not laying on the bed. Reading your notes or book in the prone position will most likely make you doze off to sleep. You will be more alert in the sitting position.

Fourthly, develop your ability to concentrate. The mind is one of the most important elements in this whole venture. If your mind cannot concentrate and think, you will not get by easily. Some suggested ways to improve your mental fitness are physical fitness, take regular and nutritional meals and get enough sleep. While some other play soft baroque music in the background.

Finally, you will have to identify you weaknesses and improve on them. For example, if you read too slow, you may need to improve your reading speed. If you are weak in algebra or calculus, you will need to quickly bush it up so that you can keep pace with the materials. How about your writing skills? Do you need improvement? Can you do college writing, reports, essay etc. Once identify, you should quickly rectify them.

Above are some suggested pointers for you to take note that you can use it to prepare yourself when you decided to take an online course. It is possible for you to excel if you really put in your heart. Adopt a positive and learning attitude. Keep strictly to your schedule and personal rules and success with be yours.

I have heard many rip off stories and a few good stories about Phoenix Online University. Since it is so difficult to research and decide who is right and who is wrong let me rephrase what I'm looking for:

Would a college at the top of the pecking order (like say Stanford, harvard etc…) accept credit transfers from a course done in Phoenix Online University?
How about the MBA (Technology) course to be specific?
The reason I'm asking for transferring of credits is to answer an indirect question. How would an employer merit a degree earned from an online institution? Phoenix Univ, to be specific but, others like Walden Univ etc may also fall under this category

As long as Phoenix is accredited, it should be possible.

Employers are going to respect a degree from a school like Stanford alot more than they will a degree from an online university; that's just the way it is. But the merit of the individual student is still a big factor.

AND WITH NO START UP COSTS

The work from home jobs that aren't scams actually require work on your part – and if you're in need of money soon then you're likely to be sorely disappointed in any of those as well. Most of the legit opportunities out there take time to build – so if someone makes an outrageous claim of income it probably isn't true ( and those that are true sure didn't make that kind of money when they first began ).

Time & effort required – but do your own research on what is best for you, don't take the advice of myself and others as gospel from this type of public website.

I have other ideas that may help – one of them is an online opportunity but another is one that will require a little effort to market yourself – try some data entry for local businesses, many of them don't have the time to do it in-house and will gladly pay someone else to do it. Professionals are a good place to start, lawyers, doctors, chiropractors, etc – they need their "in-house" folks doing other things rather than busy work.
